Bioman Biology Tutorial

In this tutorial I am going to demonstrate the basic controls on the website.  It is pretty self explanatory and each of the different game topics has its own tutorial before you begin the game. Below is a game tutorial and a quiz tutorial.

Game Tutorial:
This is a screenshot of the homepage: www.biomanbio.com
On the left side chose a topic.  I chose "Life Chemistry".
After clicking on the topic I was directed to the screen shown below.  I chose the game "Protein Synthesis Race"

The next few screen shots are of the in-game tutorial and instructions.  As you can see their is some background information as well as user info. Follow the screen prompts and the game begins shortly. The end of the game automatically leads into a review quiz.

Quiz Tutorial:

The below is a screen shot from the homepage. Along the top menu bar are a few selections.  Chose the "Quizzes" tab for access to quizzes without playing through the games first.  These quizzes also let the students print off a score sheet.

After selecting a quiz the student will be asked to enter their name. During the quiz the students receive immediate feedback for each answer selected.  If the student selects the wrong answer the question will be recirculated and they will have another shot at it.

Once the quiz is complete their scores will be shown.  The student has the option of downloading a pdf file with their information.

Bioman Biology Overview

Bioman Biology

Overview:
This website is catered to students and teachers.  It features retro-style games that help demonstrate various aspects of biology.  Some of the games are genetics, adaptations. photosynthesis, ecology etc.   The games offer background information and also follow up the play with a quiz to check for understanding.  Even though the games themselves have a rudimentary feel to them, they offer a hands on approach to learning the basic facts of biology.  This website helps bring the abstract ideas of cellular processes or evolution to a concrete form.

Applications:
Bioman Biology offers quick and simple games for the students to use.  This site could be used for many applications such as:
1.  Reward for completed work.
2. An option for days after TCAP or other times when heavy content teaching is not appropriate
3. Review
4. Self exploration of a new topic

The Bioman Biology website has discussed its own reason that their site is valuable to the teacher and the student.  Follow the appropriate links to see what they have to say.

Pros and Cons for Video Game Use:

EdTech Magazine created the graphic below.  Overall the jury is still out on whether or not video games should have a place in education.

About Me

Hi! I am Mrs. Fryar and I am a current student at University of Northern Colorado. I will gradutate in December 2014 with my bachelor's degree in biology and secondary eductation. I am doing my 363 observations at Greeley West High School. I am loving the students and the curriculum that is being taught and really enjoying getting a chance to teach real students. I believe that all students are capable of learning and deserve to be held to a high standard. Senses help to engage students and bring their content to life. The more senses that are being used the more learning is happening.
